DIY: Cake Recipe.

For the DIY bride or for anyone who loves to cook, bake or make small treats for not only weddings, but bridal showers, baby showers and birthdays. I wanted to post a simple enough recipe that can be easily followed and executed.

As an event planner/event designer, I've encountered couples with different budgets and with those on a smaller budget but still want that "umph" on there special day this might be a way to make it extra special be it any occasion. For bridal showers or weddings share recipes or have close friends bring in there special baked cookies, cup cakes or dessert cake and "tada" you've created your own special sweet table, its more sentimental because it was baked by special friends.

Below is an easy recipe to follow with pictures, enjoy.
Recipe credit from: Zimbo Kitchen.

Enjoy!
  • 1 3/4 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups Self-raising flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup pure vegetable oil
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup fresh milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

Quick Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius/ 360 Degrees Fahrenheit/ Gas Mark 6. Grease a 9 inch baking tin and line it with greaseproof paper and grease that too.
  2. Put sugar in bowl, add eggs, vanilla essence and oil.
  3. Mix well then add milk. Mix well then with your sieve on top of the bowl and pour the flour onto the sieve.
  4. Add cocoa powder, baking powder and bicarbonate soda to the flour on the sieve then sift.
  5. With the sifted ingredients added to the bowl that has the batter, mix well. Add hot water then switch to using a whisk and whisk, breaking any lumps that may have formed.
  6. Peel the bananas then slice them up. Mash the bananas then fold them into the chocolate cake batter and whisk one final time.
  7. With your chocolate banana cake batter ready, pour it into your prepared cake tin and bake for 55 minutes or until done (when a skewer or toothpick comes out clean after being inserted in the cake.) Enjoy with a cuppa or as a dessert with ice-cream or custard.

Can you rock the color of the year 2013?

Can you rock the color of the year. It's a rich vibrant color, that might be intimidating at first sight, but if paired or coupled well can be very pleasing to the eyes.

It's the vibrant color "Emerald".

The brilliant green of the emerald is a color that conveys harmony and the love of Nature. The human eye can never see enough of this exceptional
color. Green is perceived as fresh and vivid, never as dull or boring. The emerald changes its color somewhat between the bright light of day and the artificial light of a lamp, but it retains its energy in all its nuances.

So are you bold enough to rock this color of the year?
Maybe these ideas will inspire you.

I would like to personally thank Mr. Deji Of Xprexxion for taking some of the lovely pictures, I thought I had it going on with my camera but when he provided us with the pictures they came out so beautiful.

To all the wonderful new and old friends, thank you. To the spectacular vendors who made the day a success, in no particular order:

Crafty Girls, Julie's Punch, MFP Designs, Delightful Cocktails, MC -Big Tim, DJ - Tu2, Cakes by Derin, Graffit Hair, MSP Productions, Ariike Okanlawon, Mope of Home Organization, Garden of Eden, Make-up Touch and Bfabevents.
